

Guwahati Police have busted a suspected international gold smuggling racket operating across multiple countries. A man was arrested with around 37 kg of gold worth nearly ₹54 crore. Police confirmed that this is one of the biggest seizures in the region, with the network reportedly linked to Central Asia and Myanmar. Further investigation is underway to trace the wider connections of the racket.
The operation was carried out during raids in the Khargul area of the city on June 29 and 30. The arrested individual, a resident of Sangli in Maharashtra, was found in possession of smuggled gold along with 13 grams of silver pieces, four mobile phones, ₹3,755 in cash, and bags used for transportation. Authorities stated that the network involves interstate and international links, and efforts are ongoing to uncover more details.
