As part of the Dasara Sharannavaratri celebrations, Goddess Kanaka Durga, who presides over Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada, will bless devotees as Mahishasuramardini Devi on Monday, marking Ashwayuja Shuddha Navami. In this powerful form, the Goddess is depicted with eight arms holding weapons as she slays the demon Mahishasura. This manifestation is regarded as the fiercest form among the Navadurgas and symbolizes the triumph of divine power over evil.
On this auspicious day, Goddess Kanaka Durga is adorned in light-coloured attire and seated on a lion, symbolizing her immense strength and divine energy. Devotees visit the temple to seek her blessings during the Navaratri festivities. Traditional offerings of garelu (fried lentil doughnuts) and rice mixed with jaggery are presented to the Goddess as naivedyam. The darshan of Mahishasuramardini Devi holds special spiritual significance for devotees celebrating the festival.
