Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has shared a memorable anecdote from her 2023 visit to India in her new book, Giorgia's Vision. She recalled being pleasantly surprised by the large number of posters featuring her photograph that were displayed across the streets of New Delhi to welcome her.
"When I arrived in Delhi, I saw posters with my picture at almost every turn. By the time I was leaving, the same posters had been replaced with messages saying, 'Thank you for visiting India,'" Meloni wrote. She added that Italy's Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani, who accompanied her on the trip, was astonished by the warm reception.
According to Meloni, Tajani jokingly remarked, "If you contest an election from a Delhi constituency, you would surely win one million votes."
Meloni first visited India in March 2023 to attend the Raisina Dialogue and returned in September the same year for the G20 Summit. Her book is based on conversations with journalist Alessandro Sallusti and features a foreword by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. In it, she also reflects on her interactions and personal rapport with several world leaders.
