A petition has been filed in the Telangana High Court seeking a temporary halt to the GHMC elections. The petitioners requested the court to direct the government not to issue the election notification until the ward boundaries are redetermined. They alleged that the recent ward delimitation process carried out by the Telangana government was illegal.
The petitioners informed the court that the delimitation process violated Rule 5 of GO No. 570 issued in 1996, which states that ward delimitation should be based on population census data. They also alleged violations of Section 6 of the Telangana Municipalities Act, 2019. After hearing arguments from both the government and petitioners, the High Court adjourned the hearing.
