Ganga River in Spate in Varanasi.. Authorities Take Key Decision!

Boat services in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, have been temporarily suspended following a significant rise in the water level and flow of the Ganga. Water Police officials, including ACP Dashashwamedh and Dr Atul Anjan Tripathi, said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to protect visitors. As of Saturday morning, the river’s water level stood at 64.70 metres and was reportedly rising by around 6 centimetres every hour. With heavy flow and continuing rains making boating unsafe, authorities directed all boat operators to immediately suspend their services.

Officials also urged visitors to stay away from the river and follow safety instructions. The suspension will remain in effect until further orders, while authorities continue to monitor the situation. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall in several regions due to a low-pressure trough over the Bay of Bengal. A red alert has been issued for Odisha, while heavy rainfall is also expected in northern parts of Andhra Pradesh. The rainfall activity is likely to continue from August 16 to 18.
