A financial irregularity has come to light in the City Armed Reserve (CAR) Headquarters of the Hyderabad City Police Commissionerate, where a camp clerk working as a junior assistant is accused of misappropriating more than ₹1 crore from the department’s welfare account. According to preliminary reports, the clerk allegedly forged the signatures of senior IPS officers and withdrew the interest earned on the account’s deposits without disturbing the principal amount. The money was allegedly spent on personal indulgences and other expenses. Task Force police reportedly took the suspect into custody for questioning after receiving information about the alleged fraud. Sources indicate that efforts are being made to recover the diverted funds. The incident has triggered discussion within the police department, particularly over how the alleged activity continued for nearly two years without being detected. The clerk, who was transferred from the CAR division some time ago, is reportedly working in a section at the South Zone headquarters.
According to the information available, the CAR Headquarters bank account holds substantial funds intended for staff welfare, infrastructure and other facilities. The account earns interest on its deposits, and the clerk allegedly knew when the interest would be credited and how much would be deposited. After the interest was credited, he allegedly used forged cheques bearing fabricated signatures of senior officers to withdraw the money, making the transactions appear to be legitimate welfare-related expenses. Since the principal balance reportedly remained unchanged, the withdrawals may not have immediately attracted attention. Investigators are examining how the alleged transactions continued for an extended period and whether any bank officials or employees may have been involved. These aspects remain under investigation, and the allegations have not been established in court.
