Bollywood actor Imran Khan, nephew of Aamir Khan, has reportedly received a notice from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) directing him to leave India by October 28. The action follows his participation in a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on October 10. Opposition parties have criticised the move as authoritarian, while Khan has decided to challenge the notice in the Bombay High Court.
Khan holds US citizenship and an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. Authorities reportedly acted following allegations that his participation in the protest violated rules governing foreign nationals in India. He was briefly detained by police during the demonstration and later released. The legal challenge is expected to examine the basis for the notice and the rules applicable to foreign nationals holding OCI status.
