Fresh military tensions have erupted between the United States and Iran in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz despite the ongoing ceasefire between the two nations. The US military stated that it successfully intercepted attacks launched by Iranian forces on three American naval vessels passing through the region. The US Central Command said its forces responded in self-defence and targeted Iranian military positions linked to the attacks. According to the statement, none of the American warships suffered damage, and Washington insisted that it does not seek escalation but remains committed to protecting its forces.
Iran, however, accused the US of violating the ceasefire first and claimed that American airstrikes targeted civilian areas during the confrontation. Iranian media reported explosions near Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, and western Tehran. Meanwhile, Donald Trump confirmed the clashes and stated that Iranian drones and small boats attempted to attack US destroyers in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump claimed the attacks were repelled successfully and warned Tehran to sign a deal soon or face stronger military action in the future. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard also claimed that US naval assets suffered damage, though American officials strongly denied the allegation.
