

The Telangana government is set to distribute fish and prawn seed across the state at 100% subsidy, with the programme aimed at supporting the livelihoods of fisher families and increasing fish production. Under the initiative, 84.59 crore fish seed and 10 crore prawn seed will be distributed across the state at a cost of Rs. 133.31 crore. The programme is expected to benefit around five lakh fisher families.
The government has set a target of producing six lakh tonnes of fish during 2026–27. The initiative is focused on increasing fish and prawn production, strengthening the fisheries sector and improving the income of fishing communities. The state’s Fisheries Department also implements schemes for supplying fish and prawn seed at 100% subsidy to eligible water bodies, with the objective of increasing production and improving the socio-economic status of fisher communities.
