Former BJP MLA and BJP Kisan Morcha leader Athar Singh Bhadana was killed in an alleged mob attack in Bhonda village in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district, triggering concern in the region. Police suspect the incident may be linked to a long-running dispute over a stone-crusher plant and mining lease. According to reports, Bhadana and his associate, Gagan Sharma, visited the disputed crusher site on Sunday evening, October 11, 2026, where an argument reportedly broke out with local residents. A group of around 70 to 80 villagers allegedly attacked Bhadana with sticks, iron rods and stones. He sustained severe injuries and was taken to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, where doctors declared him dead.
Bhadana had reportedly faced allegations of encroaching on grazing land and carrying out illegal mining. Police are investigating the circumstances and the motive behind the attack. A case has been registered against 40 local residents, and 12 people have been taken into custody. Additional police personnel have been deployed in Bhonda village to maintain law and order. The incident has also triggered a political debate because it occurred in Bharatpur, the home district of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and other opposition leaders criticised the state government over the law-and-order situation.
