Reports have emerged that several foreign nationals allegedly cast illegal votes in the recently held Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Chennai Police have arrested around 25 individuals in connection with the case. Authorities stated that although the accused were of Indian origin, they had acquired citizenship in countries such as Sri Lanka, Canada, and Australia, yet used fake voter IDs to participate in the elections.
The suspects were detained by the Bureau of Immigration and Tamil Nadu Police at Chennai and Madurai airports while attempting to travel abroad. Police identified them based on ink marks on their left index fingers. Preliminary investigation revealed that they had voted in multiple constituencies, including Pattukottai, Perambur, and KK Nagar in Chennai. Further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the irregularities.
