A series of food contamination incidents in the district has sparked serious concern among the public over food safety standards. In recent weeks, several children reportedly fell ill after consuming pani puri, a lizard was found in sweets at a sweet shop, and multiple people were hospitalised after eating mandi biryani at a hotel. These recurring incidents have raised questions about hygiene practices and food quality at hotels, restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops and roadside food outlets.
Despite conducting inspections and collecting food samples for laboratory analysis, officials are yet to release the test results collected over the past two months. Residents have criticised the authorities for failing to take strict action against establishments violating food safety norms. Citizens are demanding regular joint inspections by Food Safety and Sanitary officials, timely disclosure of test reports and stringent action against offenders to ensure public health and food safety.
