Fine Rice Distribution to Poor Is a Unique Scheme in India - Uttam Kumar Reddy

Telangana Civil Supplies and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy participated in the distribution of smart ration cards at an event held in Nereducherla town of Suryapet district on Sunday. Addressing the gathering, he described the distribution of fine rice to poor families as a unique welfare initiative in the country. He said it was a matter of satisfaction that nearly 85 per cent of Telangana’s population had access to fine rice. Under the state’s scheme, eligible ration-card holders receive six kilograms of fine rice per person every month.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also criticised the previous BRS government over the issuance of ration cards and said the present government was providing new cards to eligible beneficiaries. Turning to political issues, he said Rahul Gandhi would become Prime Minister and alleged that the BJP was involved in “vote theft”. He said the Congress would work towards winning all Lok Sabha seats in Telangana to support Rahul Gandhi’s bid to become Prime Minister.
