Farmers in Kondapalli village of Gadwal Mandal have raised concerns over crop damage caused by water leakage from the newly constructed 99 Package Canal. According to the farmers, chilli and other crops belonging to Guvvala Ranganna, R. Dolu Ramudu and several other farmers were severely damaged after water entered their fields. They said they had already invested heavily in seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and labour, but the crop damage has now put their investments and livelihoods at risk.
The farmers alleged that water was released through the canal before the construction work was completely finished and the structure was properly inspected for leaks. They have urged the concerned officials to visit the affected areas, assess the condition of the canal and the extent of crop damage, and submit a report to the government. The farmers also requested suitable compensation for the losses and demanded that the remaining canal works be completed with proper quality standards to prevent similar problems in the future.
