A report by SBI Research has highlighted significant vacancies in faculty positions across central higher education institutions in India. According to the report, 56.2% of professor positions remain vacant nationwide, while 38.3% of associate professor posts and 18% of assistant professor posts are unfilled. Overall, 34% of faculty positions across central higher education institutions are vacant, the report said.
The report stated that 39% of faculty positions are vacant in IITs and 31% in IIMs. The highest vacancy rate was recorded in IIITs, where 54% of faculty posts remain unfilled, according to SBI Research. The findings highlight the extent of faculty vacancies across various categories of central higher education institutions.
