Union Home Minister Amit Shah has promised that Punjab will be made a drug-free state by December 31, 2029, if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is given an opportunity to form the government. He announced that the BJP would contest the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections with the goal of creating a ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab’. Shah made the remarks at the concluding programme of the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ at Paragpur in Jalandhar on Wednesday.
Shah also criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, alleging that it had failed to curb the sale of narcotic substances in the state. He said the Centre had taken steps against terrorism in Kashmir, insurgency in the Northeast and Naxalism, and stated that Punjab could also be made free from drugs with an opportunity to implement the BJP’s plans.
