The Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided to undertake a special revision of electoral rolls in 17 states and Union Territories. The exercise will also cover states scheduled to hold Assembly elections next year, with January 1, 2027, set as the qualifying date. The initiative aims to improve the accuracy of electoral rolls and ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the voter database ahead of upcoming elections.
The revision process will focus on registering young people who have attained the eligible voting age and first-time voters, while also correcting errors and updating existing voter details. Eligible citizens will have an opportunity to verify their information and seek necessary corrections. Through this exercise, the Election Commission aims to maintain accurate and comprehensive electoral rolls to facilitate a smooth and transparent election process.
