Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, Bhongir Mandal Parishad President (MPP), has urged farmers in Telangana to take precautions in view of concerns surrounding the El Niño phenomenon. Referring to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s advice, he said El Niño is a global climate challenge rather than an issue confined to Telangana. He cautioned that farmers could be among the first to face the consequences of water shortages and advised them not to rely on statements made by opposition parties when making agricultural decisions.
Kiran Kumar Reddy urged farmers to assess water availability before choosing crops and avoid cultivating varieties that require large quantities of water. He particularly cautioned against growing paddy if sufficient water cannot be assured, as this could lead to financial difficulties for farmers. He also noted that water shortages can affect electricity generation. According to his remarks, Telangana has reached a position where it can supply 20,000 megawatts of electricity. He called on farmers to consider the Chief Minister’s suggestions and choose crops suited to available water resources.
