ED Investigation Continues in AP Liquor Scam

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is continuing its investigation into the alleged Andhra Pradesh liquor scam and is questioning four people connected with liquor transportation. Those being questioned include Rayapati Purushotham Rao, Marri Subba Reddy and Ramesh. During the YSRCP government, contracts for transporting liquor to government-run retail outlets were reportedly awarded to Sigma and Prasad Transport. The ED is examining the transportation of around 59.14 lakh liquor boxes by Marri Subba Reddy and Rayapati Purushotham Rao during the first contract period, as well as an alleged payment of ₹15.44 crore from Sigma.

The agency is also questioning those involved about alleged subcontracts, the movement of funds and their links with former minister Ambati Rambabu. Statements given by Rayapati Purushotham Rao and Marri Subba Reddy are being recorded by the ED and the Special Investigation Team (SIT). Investigators have alleged that increasing transportation charges led to a loss of more than ₹195 crore to the state exchequer. These are allegations being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
