The Trinamool Congress suffered another setback in West Bengal after senior party leader and former minister Sujit Bose was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Officials reportedly questioned him for nearly seven hours in connection with the municipal recruitment scam case before taking him into custody. Sujit Bose had earlier served as the Fire Services Minister during the tenure of Mamata Banerjee.
In the same case, ED officials also issued summons to Sujit Bose’s son Samudra Bose. This marks the first arrest of a prominent TMC leader after the change of power in West Bengal. Allegations of large-scale corruption involving the TMC had become a major campaign issue during the recent Assembly elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah repeatedly targeted the TMC government over corruption allegations, which played a significant role in the BJP’s electoral victory.
