The Election Commission said opposition MPs could meet its officials if they submitted a formal request for an appointment. According to the Commission, no such request was received until 4 pm, while the request came only after that time. The ECI also said a meeting with around 240 MPs would be an unusual arrangement given the size of the delegation.
The Commission said it had offered to send a senior official to receive the memorandum submitted by the INDIA bloc MPs, but the MPs declined the arrangement. The statement came amid the Opposition’s protest against the Election Commission over issues related to the electoral rolls and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
