The Civil Supplies Department has made e-KYC verification mandatory for ration card beneficiaries to bring more transparency into the Public Distribution System. In the district, 2,96,456 ration cards covering 7,59,231 beneficiaries have completed e-KYC through biometric verification, while around 1,33,982 beneficiaries are yet to update their details. Authorities have fixed the deadline as July 31, after which ration supply will be continued only for beneficiaries with completed e-KYC.
The government plans to remove inactive cards belonging to deceased beneficiaries, those who have not collected ration for years, and people who have migrated abroad. However, technical issues such as fingerprint failures, Aadhaar linking problems for children below 10 years, and errors in Aadhaar details are slowing down the process. Officials clarified that beneficiaries can complete e-KYC from any ration shop across the country and elderly people can use iris authentication if fingerprints fail.
