Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C. Sudharshan Reddy has cautioned that possessing voter registrations in two different constituencies or in multiple states is a violation of election laws. He stated that individuals who intentionally obtain duplicate voter registrations could face imprisonment of up to one year along with a monetary penalty. The warning comes as election authorities intensify efforts to ensure the accuracy of electoral rolls.
The CEO said the Election Commission is using the Demographically Similar Entries (DSE) software to identify duplicate voter records efficiently. He added that notices have already been issued to several individuals found with suspected duplicate registrations. Authorities urged citizens to maintain only one valid voter registration and cooperate in keeping the electoral database accurate and transparent.
