The Amarnath Yatra, which began on July 3, witnessed a disappointing development for devotees as the naturally formed ice Shivling melted completely within just five days. The ice formation, which stood nearly five feet tall on the opening day, is believed to have melted quickly due to global warming and the heavy influx of pilgrims.
The 57 day Amarnath Yatra is continuing as scheduled. Around 86,000 devotees visited the shrine during the first four days, while nearly four lakh pilgrims have registered for this year's pilgrimage. Despite the melting of the ice Shivling, darshan at the holy cave is continuing.
