The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed that eight people aboard the cruise ship MV Hondius were infected with Hantavirus. Following the development, WHO officials clarified that the virus does not spread like COVID-19 or influenza.
Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, Director of Epidemic and Pandemic Management at WHO, stated that Hantavirus has a completely different mode of transmission and is not considered highly dangerous like major respiratory outbreaks. The organization emphasized that there is currently no indication of a widespread public health threat.
