Amid protests in the national capital, Delhi Police took precautionary action and arrested Abhijit Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), on Friday evening. According to reports, he was detained under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) over concerns about a possible breach of public order. He was expected to be produced before a Special Executive Magistrate. AISA president Neha Bora, who was also arrested while heading to participate in the “Lehra Do Tiranga” protest in Delhi, was later released.
Ratna Singh, head of the CJP’s legal wing, announced Dipke’s arrest on social media platform X and said he would be produced before a special magistrate. She added that she did not know his current whereabouts. The CJP alleged that Dipke had been moved to an undisclosed location and that communication with him had been cut off. AISA also alleged that Bora had been kept alone at the Anti-Narcotics Task Force office in Mangolpuri and that lawyers and colleagues were not allowed to meet its leaders. Police later released Bora after completing the detention-related procedures.
