The Delhi High Court has granted interim bail to former JNU leader Umar Khalid, who was arrested in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots case. The court approved temporary relief on humanitarian grounds due to his mother’s surgery. A bench comprising Justice Prathiba M Singh and Justice Madhu Jain granted him bail for three days starting from June 1.
The court imposed strict conditions while granting the relief. Umar Khalid has been instructed to visit only the hospital to meet his mother and avoid travelling elsewhere. The court also directed him to furnish a bond of ₹1 lakh and remain confined to his residence. Police authorities were asked to closely monitor his movements during the bail period.
