The Delhi High Court has issued a key direction in a petition filed by Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan seeking protection of his personality rights. The actor alleged that his name, voice and likeness were being used without his permission. Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav stated that if the settlement with the respondents is not completed before the next hearing, Bachchan must appear in person before the court. The matter was adjourned to November 16, 2026, to allow the parties to complete the settlement formalities.
Bachchan approached the High Court in 2022 seeking protection against the unauthorised use of his identity in lottery schemes, businesses and digital products. He had obtained interim ex parte orders to prevent such use. He later opted for mediation to resolve the dispute with some respondents, and a settlement was reportedly close to being finalised. However, the signing process was delayed due to logistical reasons on Bachchan’s side. The court has indicated that if the settlement remains incomplete, his personal appearance may be required under the applicable legal provisions.
