The Delhi High Court has granted interim relief to young Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma in a case concerning the misuse of his personality rights. The court said it would issue interim directions to intermediaries to immediately remove objectionable URLs that allegedly misuse his name, image, and identity on social media. Justice Jyoti Singh also issued summons to the defendants and directed that notices be served through all legally permissible means. The next hearing has been scheduled for November 17.
Abhishek Sharma approached the court seeking the removal of AI generated objectionable content and unauthorized commercial use of his identity. His counsel informed the court that an AI generated post falsely portrayed his manager as his girlfriend using his photograph. The petition also alleged that his identity was being used without permission on e-commerce platforms such as Amazon and Flipkart. Meta informed the court that only two objectionable links remained on its platforms and assured they would be removed, while Amazon also agreed to take down the disputed links.
