Delhi is on high alert as protests by the INDIA bloc have disrupted parts of central Delhi for the past four days. On Saturday, the BJP and Left-affiliated student organisations are also scheduled to stage protests at Jantar Mantar. With demonstrations expected from multiple groups, security arrangements have been significantly strengthened across the national capital. Central intelligence agencies estimate that nearly 50,000 people may enter Delhi on Saturday.
Apart from the Delhi Police, around 26,000 additional personnel from armed security forces are being deployed. The Union Home Ministry has directed 7,000 CRPF personnel stationed in West Bengal and Chhattisgarh to move to Delhi immediately. Police have also warned that access to sensitive areas in central Delhi, including Jantar Mantar, may be restricted. Checkpoints have been established at all major border entry points to monitor movement into the city.
The additional deployment of around 26,000 personnel is expected to continue until the 12th. Nearly 5,000 police personnel are already on patrol across various parts of Delhi, with the possibility of deploying another 10,000 Delhi Police personnel. Multi-layered barricades are being installed on roads leading towards Jantar Mantar and Parliament. The Delhi Police have also written to the Excise Department, requesting the closure of liquor shops in central Delhi as a precautionary measure.
