Central government employees and pensioners are awaiting a decision on the next revision of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR). According to reports, a 3% increase effective from July 2026 is being discussed. If approved by the Union Cabinet, the DA rate could rise from the current 60% to 63%, while pensioners may receive a corresponding increase in DR. However, the proposal and the timing of any announcement remain unconfirmed by the government. DA and DR are generally revised twice a year, in January and July, with changes informed by inflation trends and the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW).
If a 3% increase is approved, the additional monthly amount would depend on an employee’s basic pay. For example, an employee with a basic salary of ₹18,000 would see DA rise from ₹10,800 at 60% to ₹11,340 at 63%, an increase of ₹540 per month. An employee with a basic salary of ₹25,500 would receive an additional ₹765 per month, while one with a basic salary of ₹56,100 would receive an additional ₹1,683. Reports have also suggested that arrears could be paid retrospectively from July if the revision is approved, but the payment schedule and any arrears have not been officially confirmed. The current DA calculation continues under the applicable Seventh Central Pay Commission framework; the proposed increase should not be treated as final until an official government order is issued.
