Cop Risks His Life to Nab Gutka Smugglers.. CM Vijay Felicitates Him

while attempting to stop suspected gutka smugglers in Coimbatore. Velmurugan, attached to the Kovilpalayam Police Station, was conducting a vehicle check on September 27 when police attempted to intercept an SUV suspected of transporting banned tobacco products from Karnataka. As the occupants suddenly tried to flee, Velmurugan climbed onto the roof of the vehicle and held tightly to the roof rails as the SUV sped away.

The suspects reportedly drove the vehicle for nearly 40 kilometres without stopping, while Velmurugan remained on the roof until police teams coordinated an interception. Three suspects were arrested and a large quantity of banned gutka products was seized from the vehicle. Praising Velmurugan’s courage, dedication to duty and quick thinking, CM Vijay invited him to the State Secretariat in Chennai and felicitated him. Tamil Nadu Director General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal was also present during the programme.
