Congress Workers Booked in Agra Over Protest at CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Ancestral Home

A case of attempt to murder, rioting and other offences has been registered against Congress workers following a protest outside the ancestral residence of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. According to police, protesters allegedly entered the residential premises and wrote slogans with black spray paint on the gate and walls during the demonstration. The FIR names eight people and also mentions 15–20 unidentified persons.

Police said six Congress workers have been arrested in connection with the incident. The accused have been booked under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including attempt to murder, rioting, wrongful restraint, assault or criminal force against a public servant, house trespass and criminal intimidation. Congress leaders have disputed the charges, with the party's local leadership alleging that several sections invoked by the police are unwarranted.
