A key meeting of Congress MPs from the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities has begun at Indira Bhavan in Delhi. The MPs are expressing strong anger over the reported ‘purification’ incident following Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s visit to Uttarakhand. The meeting is discussing issues concerning the dignity and self respect of SC and ST communities, equality and the eradication of untouchability. Telangana MPs Mallu Ravi, Gaddam Vamsi Krishna, Balram Naik and Kadiyam Kavya are attending the meeting.
The SC and ST MPs are expected to finalise their future course of action and have decided to submit a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu, seeking her intervention and appropriate action over the incident. The MPs have sought an appointment with the President on the 8th of this month. If the meeting is not possible on that date, they have requested another date convenient to the President. The MPs have called for a collective fight to protect the constitutional rights, dignity and self respect of SC and ST communities.
