Congress High Command Leans Towards Tough Action

The Congress high command is reportedly considering disciplinary action over the latest developments in the Telangana unit. Discussions are said to be underway over the possibility of removing Minister Konda Surekha and Chinna Reddy from their positions, with the aim of sending a strong message across the party organisation. However, some senior leaders are reportedly advising the high command to limit action against Surekha to a change of portfolio rather than taking harsher measures. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy held a lengthy meeting with AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal in Delhi on Tuesday and is understood to have discussed the Surekha issue along with Cabinet restructuring.

Revanth Reddy reportedly stressed the need for appropriate action to prevent any adverse impact on the government’s image and functioning, while leaving the final decision to the high command. He is also said to have conveyed that he would accept whatever decision the leadership takes. TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud and Telangana affairs in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan are expected to meet K.C. Venugopal to share their views, while Konda Surekha, who reached Delhi following a call from the high command, is likely to give her explanation. Based on the disciplinary committee report, the views of party leaders and Surekha’s response, Venugopal is expected to submit a comprehensive report to Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.
