The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has called for a statewide shutdown of colleges across Telangana on July 14, Tuesday, protesting against the alleged negligence of the state government in releasing fee reimbursement dues. ABVP State Secretary Macherla Rambabu urged all private and government institutions, from junior colleges to universities, to participate in the bandh. He accused the government of attempting to phase out the fee reimbursement scheme, which supports lakhs of students.
Rambabu stated that nearly 20 lakh students from SC, ST, BC, EBC, and minority communities depend on scholarships and fee reimbursement for higher education. However, due to pending dues amounting to ₹11,000 crore, many students are facing hardships. He alleged that around two lakh students drop out annually, while over 4.5 lakh graduates are unable to collect certificates due to unpaid fees. ABVP also criticized the government for failing to fulfill its promises and warned of intensified protests if immediate action is not taken.
