Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay paid an unannounced visit to a government student hostel in Chennai to review its facilities and hear students' concerns firsthand. Students complained about poor food quality, unhygienic conditions, irregular water supply, inadequate security, staff shortages, and a lack of proper maintenance. They also requested improved library resources, sports facilities, and better hostel access for students returning late from coaching classes.
After interacting with the students, Vijay inspected the kitchen, sanitation facilities, and other hostel infrastructure. He directed officials to take immediate corrective measures, particularly regarding food quality and hygiene. The hostel, built at a cost of ₹44.50 crore during the previous DMK government, was intended to provide modern accommodation for students. This marks Vijay's second surprise inspection in recent days, reflecting his focus on directly monitoring public institutions.
