CM Revanth Reddy Seeks Four-Week Extension for Voter Claims and Objections

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has urged Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to extend the deadline for voters to submit claims and objections during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. In a letter, the Chief Minister said Telangana is not facing any immediate elections and therefore sufficient time should be provided to conduct the revision comprehensively. He sought a four-week extension to the existing September 16 deadline and requested that the date for publication of the final electoral roll, currently scheduled for October 19, also be revised. According to the figures cited by the Chief Minister, Telangana had 3.38 crore voters as of June 10, 2026, of whom 73.39 lakh had been identified under the absent, shifted, deceased and duplicate (ASDD) categories. He said around 92.86 lakh voters could potentially receive notices because of anomalies and unlinked enumeration forms, making the exercise significant for nearly one-third of the electorate.

Revanth Reddy also pointed to procedural concerns in the revision exercise. He said voters who were temporarily away from their homes and those who had permanently shifted residence should not be treated alike, and stressed that voters should receive adequate notice before names are removed from the rolls. He sought acceptance of Family Register Certificates and other identification documents issued by mandal-level officials, along with help centres at polling-station level, wider public awareness campaigns and additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officers in areas facing a high number of cases. The Chief Minister said the government was ready to extend full cooperation to ensure that no eligible voter is excluded and no ineligible voter remains on the electoral roll.
