The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has announced nationwide protests from today, October 2, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said the protests will begin in Mumbai and will subsequently be taken to other cities across the country. The party has said the demonstrations will continue until its demand for Kumar’s resignation is met.
The CJP has also demanded that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls be stopped and that elections be conducted using the 2025 electoral roll. The party has additionally called for an independent inquiry into the SIR exercise and changes to the process of appointing Election Commissioners. These are demands and allegations made by the CJP; the Election Commission’s position and responses should be considered separately when assessing the dispute.
