Chennai to Become a Global Olympic City and Motorsports Hub - CM Vijay

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has announced an ambitious plan to transform Chennai into a world-class Olympic city and a major motorsports hub. Addressing the Assembly, he unveiled plans for a new Secretariat and Assembly complex spread across 2 million square feet, with an estimated investment of ₹1,200 crore. The government also intends to develop Chennai as a motorsports destination and explore opportunities to host Formula 1-4 racing events in the coming years.

The proposed Olympic City will be developed under the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority, with comprehensive facilities for athletes. The project is expected to include sports arenas, modern equipment, training centres, sports science and sports medicine facilities, high-quality accommodation for athletes and coaching infrastructure. The government said the objective is to provide Tamil Nadu athletes with advanced training and world-class facilities. A task force led by the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department has already been constituted to work towards bringing Formula 1 racing back to India by the end of 2028, with Chennai being positioned as a potential venue.
