An old statement by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu from 2019 has resurfaced in the public debate. At the time, Naidu alleged that the credibility and independent functioning of key institutions, including the CBI, RBI and Election Commission, had been weakened under the Narendra Modi-led government. He also accused the Centre of using central agencies and institutions to suppress dissent and target political opponents.
The remarks are now being shared again amid changes in political equations and alliances over the years. Naidu’s political relationship with the BJP has also changed since 2019, adding context to the renewed discussion around his earlier statements. The resurfacing of the remarks has once again brought the debate over institutional autonomy and political positions back into public conversation.
