Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil stated that water is the foundation for the country’s economic growth, food security, and environmental sustainability. He highlighted that climate change, declining groundwater levels, and rapid urbanisation are creating major challenges in water management. He urged states to adopt scientific, efficient, and sustainable water resource management practices for public welfare.
The minister made these remarks while addressing the All India Conference of senior secretaries of water resources departments from states and Union Territories held in New Delhi. Telangana Irrigation Department Principal Secretary Sridhar participated in the conference. Patil called for effective implementation of the Dam Safety Act, 2021, completion of dam safety assessments by December this year, and removal of silt from reservoirs.
