The Central Government has announced a complete ban on the use and import of the hazardous herbicide Paraquat through a fresh notification. The revised policy will come into effect within 30 days, strengthening India's regulations on dangerous agricultural chemicals.
Paraquat has already been banned in more than 70 countries due to its severe health and environmental risks. Studies have linked prolonged exposure to cancer, neurological disorders, and fatal poisoning among farmers and agricultural workers. The government said the decision is aimed at protecting public health, ensuring farmer safety, and preventing long-term environmental damage.
