Trade bodies have withdrawn the proposed ‘No UPI Day’ protest scheduled for October 2 against the proposed Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on eligible UPI merchant transactions. The decision came after a delegation of around 20 trade and retail representatives met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and discussed their concerns.
The traders raised concerns that the proposed 0.4% MDR on merchant UPI payments above ₹2,000 could increase the financial burden on small and medium businesses. The delegation, led by Chandni Chowk MP and Confederation of All India Traders Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal, sought clarity and a review of the proposed framework. Following the meeting, Khandelwal said the discussions were constructive and that the government had assured them that their concerns would be considered.
