BRS Will Fight to Protect Eligible Voters’ Rights, Says KTR

BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao held a meeting with the party’s SIR committee at Telangana Bhavan to review the activities being carried out at the grassroots level, problems faced by voters and measures needed to ensure that eligible voters are not removed from the electoral rolls. Speaking to the media later, KTR expressed concern over the SIR process in Telangana. He said the state had around 3.39 crore voters before the process began, while information related to the electoral exercise indicated that around 73 to 74 lakh votes were categorised as ‘uncollectable’ and had not received a response so far. He said the large number of such votes, along with reports of anomalies in nearly 60 lakh votes, was a matter of concern.

KTR said the BRS would prepare a detailed action plan after the draft electoral rolls are published. The party has already consulted its legal cell and legal experts on the steps to be taken if eligible voters are removed from the rolls. He said district-level meetings are being planned to review local conditions and decide on legal and organisational measures to protect voters’ rights. Meetings are expected to be held on August 13 and 14, with the final schedule and action plan to be announced after discussions with party president K. Chandrashekar Rao. KTR said the party machinery would remain fully alert at the grassroots level and extend necessary assistance to voters affected by the SIR process.
