Allegations of corruption and irregularities have surfaced in several electricity sections under the Southern Telangana Power Distribution Company in Hyderabad. Despite measures reportedly being taken to curb misconduct, some field-level officials are accused of delaying new electricity connections and creating hurdles for applicants who do not pay bribes. In the latest reported incident, Assistant Engineer Rakesh of the Madannapet section was caught by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday while allegedly accepting ₹1.20 lakh in connection with the sanctioning of six electricity meters.
Further allegations have been raised against officials in several circles, including Hyderabad South, Central Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Medchal, Saroornagar, Rajendranagar and Cyber City. In the Gajularamaram section of Quthbullapur, an Assistant Engineer has been accused of issuing panel boards and meters without the required estimates. There are also demands for a comprehensive investigation into development works undertaken over the past two years and the related bills in the Charminar and Begum Bazaar divisions. Questions have also been raised about the field inspections conducted by chief engineers and senior operational officials across the metropolitan and surrounding zones. These allegations call for appropriate verification and investigation by the relevant authorities.
