The Bombay High Court refused to quash an FIR against a woman accused of demanding ₹25 lakh from her second husband while her first marriage was still legally valid. The court observed that claiming "alimony" in such circumstances was unjustified and noted that the allegations indicated possible blackmail and extortion. It directed that the criminal investigation and trial should continue.
The court noted that the woman's second marriage had already been declared void because her first marriage was still subsisting. However, it quashed the criminal proceedings against her mother and brother, stating that there was insufficient evidence against them. The ruling came in a petition seeking to quash an FIR registered in Pune in 2017.
