Bomb threats have triggered a security alert in Mumbai, India’s financial capital. Police and security agencies were put on high alert after an email received on Friday threatened attacks on the mayor’s office, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan’s residence and the venue of singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert. Officials said the message was received by Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde. Security was tightened at the locations mentioned in the email, and an investigation was launched to assess the credibility of the threats.
Police conducted a thorough search of the mayor’s office at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters but found no suspicious objects, officials said. The email was also reportedly sent to Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi. According to officials, the message threatened an attack on Dosanjh’s concert scheduled for November 27 at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse. It also allegedly identified ‘Jalsa’, Bachchan’s residence in Juhu, as a target between October 31 and November 27, and threatened a grenade attack on a school on October 31. The email reportedly mentioned Khalistan as well. Security has been strengthened at the mayor’s office, the racecourse, prominent educational institutions and other locations named in the message. Police are investigating the email’s origin, the identity of its sender and whether the threats pose a credible danger.
