An Austrian Airlines Airbus A320 flying from Tel Aviv, Israel, to Vienna, Austria, was diverted to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, following a bomb threat. The threat was reportedly received while the aircraft was travelling near the Romanian border, prompting the crew to take precautionary measures and change its route. A Bulgarian Air Force fighter jet escorted the aircraft until it landed safely in Sofia. Following the landing, all 51 passengers and six crew members were evacuated from the plane, and security personnel began conducting inspections.
According to Israeli media reports, the incident was triggered by a threat received from an unidentified individual. Reports also indicated that a suspicious object had raised security concerns aboard the aircraft. An Israeli delegation of young representatives travelling to address the United Nations was reportedly among those on board. Security checks were initiated after the plane landed, but the airline has yet to release complete details about the threat or the findings of the inspection.
