An Austrian Airlines Airbus A320 travelling from Tel Aviv, Israel, to Vienna, Austria, made an emergency landing in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, following a bomb threat. According to the report, the flight crew received the threat while the aircraft was flying near the Romanian border and diverted the plane to Sofia as a precaution. A Bulgarian Air Force fighter jet escorted the aircraft until it landed safely. After landing, all 51 passengers and six crew members were evacuated, and security personnel began inspecting the aircraft.
Israeli media reports said the incident was triggered by a threat from an unidentified person. Concerns were also reportedly raised after a suspicious object was noticed on board. An Israeli youth delegation travelling to address the United Nations was said to be among the passengers. However, Austrian Airlines has not disclosed full details of the threat. The incident has drawn attention to aviation security, particularly following reports of another security scare involving a Flydubai flight a few weeks earlier.
